Railway puzzles with a single answer

Each puzzle is a grid with a few pieces of track already laid. Your job is to connect the entrance to the exit so that every row and column holds the number of track squares shown beside it. The track bends and runs straight but never crosses itself.

A new set appears every time you press New puzzles, and each one is built with a proven single answer. Pick the small 5 by 5 grid for a first go, or a Hard 10 by 10 for a long wet afternoon. One big puzzle on a page is easy to read, and six to a page makes a handy travel booklet.

Everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Once the last piece is down, a few free colouring pages make a nice reward, and a train is always a popular thing to colour in.

Questions, answered

How do you solve a train tracks puzzle?
Draw one track from the arrow on the left edge to the arrow on the bottom edge. The numbers around the grid say how many squares in that row or column hold track. Every square has a straight piece, a corner, or nothing, and the track never crosses itself.
Can the track touch itself?
Two parts of the track may sit in neighbouring squares without joining up. They only connect where both pieces point at each other, so look at the way each piece runs, not at which squares are filled.
Does every puzzle have only one answer?
Yes. Each puzzle is checked as it is made, so exactly one track fits the numbers and the pieces already printed. The answer pages show it as a purple line.
What do Easy, Medium and Hard change?
Easy prints extra pieces, so you can start from them and fill in the rest without guessing. Medium prints fewer, and you will need to spot where a loop or a dead end would form. Hard prints the fewest and usually asks you to test a route in your head.
Is there a version for young children?
Yes. The 5 by 5 grid has a short track and several pieces already in place, which is a gentle way to learn how the numbers work. Move up to 6 by 6 and 8 by 8 as they get comfortable.
How many puzzles can I print at once?
Up to 10 pages with 1, 2, 4 or 6 puzzles on each, so up to 60 different puzzles in one PDF. Answers come on pages at the end, six to a page. Choose US Letter or A4 first.
