The short version
You do not need an account to browse, print or color on CrayonNook. We do not ask for your name, email or any personal details to use the site. An account is optional and only adds saving your work across devices.
What we collect
If you say yes to analytics, we collect basic, aggregated usage data (pages viewed, downloads, prints, coloring sessions) through Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics. If you say no, or do not answer, analytics stays off. Your in-progress coloring is saved only in your own browser.
Our servers keep standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, requested page) for security and reliability.
If you create an account
An account is optional. If you make one, this is everything we store about you: your email address; the colorings you save (the colors and brush strokes, plus a small preview picture of each); a full-size picture of a coloring when you mark it finished; the pages and themes you save as favorites; and the color palettes you save. We use it only to show it back to you.
Sign-in is by Google or by an email link, so we never see or store a password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and name from Google. A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in on your device.
Everything is stored on our servers in the EU (Hetzner) and is kept until you delete it. To delete a saved coloring, open My art. To delete your account and everything above, open Account and choose Delete my account; it is removed straight away. Encrypted backups that already exist are deleted on a rolling schedule, within about six months.
You can also email [email protected] and ask us to delete or send you a copy of your data.
If you make your own pages
When you use the page maker, we store what you typed (your description or the name), the options you picked and the page we made, in your account until you delete them. Delete a page from My pages and its files are removed straight away. Your credit balance and a record of credits used are kept as part of your account.
So free credits can't be claimed twice, we keep a one-way scrambled code made from your email address (not the address itself) after you delete your account, along with how many free pages you used that day and any credits owed. The address itself is not stored; the code only lets us recognise the same address if it signs up again. Versions of one address that differ only in capitals, dots or a +tag (Jo.Smith+art@ and josmith@) count as the same address.
Deleting your account also deletes any credits left on it, bought or free, without a refund. If you bought credits, we ask our payment provider Stripe to delete your customer record; Stripe keeps its own record of each payment, as the law requires.
A photo you upload is used only to make your page. It is shrunk, stripped of its hidden details (such as where it was taken) and deleted as soon as your page is made. We don't keep it.
Before a page is made, your description or photo is checked by an AI service for content we don't allow, and then sent to an AI image service to make your page. We send only what is needed for that and nothing that identifies you, such as your email address.
Cookies and advertising
When you first visit, a banner asks whether analytics cookies may be used. Until you choose, they are switched off, and we store your answer only in your own browser. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer. Accepting allows analytics only; no advertising cookies are used.
We may show advertising in the future. If we do, our ad partner will ask for your consent where the law requires it, and you will be able to change your choice at any time.
Children
CrayonNook is designed for adults, including parents and teachers who print pages for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Accounts are for people aged 18 and over.
